DESIGN AND ERGONOMICS

MAEL 380 terminal has been designed to reconcile ergonomics and installation flexibility. The integrated devices inside the terminal (e.g. optical scanner) have been specially designed for this purpose.

The result is a terminal which speeds up operations, reduces training times and can be adapted to the many requirements of a point-of-sale.

Main unit

• Operator display (with touch screen) can be regulated to use the terminal either sitting down or standing up or by persons of different heights.
• Free-feed scanner with automatic coupon/ticket feeder.
• Customer display which can be placed on the terminal or at a distance, hooked-up or positioned in various ways.
• Front access to internal operative parts such as CD-ROM reader.
• Bar-code scanner for scratch tickets, available also in integrated version.
• Cable exits from the bottom of the terminal with no directional restraints.
• Reduced depth (only 42 cm) to avoid any installation restraints.

Printer

• Stand-alone printer, which can be located at a distance from the terminal.
• Automatic receipt collection.
• Automatic paper insertion (clam shell)
• Signals indicating "No Paper" and "Paper almost finished"

ARCHITECTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS

MAEL 380 and MAEL 205 terminals guarantee maximum functionality and performance in complete compliance with international and market standards.

Use of MAEL terminals ensures protection of initial investment and guarantees the possibility of introducing new games and services benefiting from future innovations in the field of telecommunications and technology in general.

The HW architecture of the terminals is PC-based using standard format motherboards specially designed by Olivetti to guarantee reliability, continuity of supply, and the possibility of adopting solutions aimed at guaranteeing the security of the software used in the terminals.

The SW architecture foresees the possibility of choosing the operative system on the basis of specific Lottery requirements: Linux, VxWorks from WindRiver and the Microsoft Windows family are the operative systems adopted by Olivetti Tecnost.

The communication architecture comprises the most commonly used communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP/IP, X25, SDLC) and integration of communication devices inside (on PCI slots) or outside the terminal through Ethernet LAN 10/100 BaseT, USB and RS232 ports.

The communication devices may be supplied directly by Olivetti or purchased from local telecommunication companies.
