Smartmatic
defends the use of voting machines
Antonio Mujica, president of Smartmatic, said the National Electoral
Council has to inform voters about the operation of the voting machines
that are to be used during August 15 presidential recall
referendum.
But he indicated that "voting is extremely easy,"
ensuring that over 20,000 people who have participated in the
demonstrations to show the operation of the balloting machines have agreed
that this process is much more easy than earlier voting mechanisms
implemented in Venezuela.
Mujica told local news TV network
Globovisión that the technology Smartmatic is using on voting machines was
designed so that the people's vote is reflected both in the machine's
screen and in a print ballot, and is transmitted to the National Electoral
Council.
